This
is a scene from web series 'Spartacus', S1:E13- "KILL THEM ALL". In
the snap, there is shown Batiatus's slaves standing in a line, Batiatus and his
guest are watching from balcony; Crixus sitting there with his shield and
Spartacus in jumping mode attacking on Batiatus with his sword.
It was not an jump but a step by
Spartacus and other rebel slaves over the Roman's longstanding slavery system
and cruelty.Quintus Lentulus Batiatus is a Lanista, a trainer and trader of
gladiators. He was running a ludus in Capua, Dominus to Spartacus and most of
the other gladiators.
In those days in Rome,
there were many lanistas who were running ludus to build gladiators. In the
ludus, the slaves were treated worse than animals. They were not properly feed
but beaten by hunters. Therefore the gladiators and other slaves decide to
clamor against this cruelty and to get freedom. This scene starts with a
pre-planned fight between Cirxus and Spartacus.
In between the fight,
Crixus smirks slightly, and Spartacus throws him toward the balcony. Crixus
looks up and back towards Lucretia. Seething with rage, he grabs his shield and
quietly says "Spartacus" while patting the shield. Spartacus and the
other gladiators quickly realizes the meaning of this. He runs and leaps with
all his strength from Crixus' shield and towards the balcony.
At the peak of his jump, he aims
his sword at Batiatus and ends up stabbing Sextus through the head. The dying
Sextus reflexively grabs Ashur, and both fall down into the ludus. Spartacus
again tries to kill Batiatus when a whip grabs his arm- Oenomaus stopped him.
Batiatus briefly stares with shock at the enraged Spartacus as he runs back
into the villa with the other Romans.
The episode ends with the the
death of Batiatus and other Romans who were present at ludus.
Spartacus is an
American television series inspired by the
historical figure of Spartacus, a Thracian gladiator who from 73
to 71 BCE led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic departing
from Capua.
Spartacus, who along with Crixus, Gannicus, Castus, and Oenomaus, was one of the escaped and brave slave leaders in
the Third Servile War. This rebellion, interpreted
by some as an example of oppressed people fighting for their freedom against a
slave-owning oligarchy, has provided inspiration for many political
thinkers, and has been featured in literature, television, and film.
